The 2006 Surf World Cup Neusiedler See – Day Two
Once more the wind has failed to play the game here on the beach of Austria’s Neusiedler See. However an originally dire forecast for tomorrow has slightly improved on the latest updates, giving hope for the morning to see action. Earlier today we saw the first round of the single elimination completed, until the wind cruelly sent the participants of Heat 17 out for several attempts, only to be continually postponed. Freezing winds have forced these pro’s to earn their money, by keeping them waiting in their wetsuits after dunkings in the icy waters here.

The early heats got underway at 09.30, challenging the entrants’ skills, providing stark contrast to where many hail from, or spent the winter training. And the level of training has obviously been intense, with the early heats seeing tricks of the high standards normally reserved for the later rounds.

The gloves are off it seems in a no holds barred Freestyle frenzy. Early victors are Ruben Petrisie (Exocet), and Austrian Chris Sammer (F2/North). Petrisie (Exocet) earns his second round match against Victor Fernandez (Fanatic/Simmer), whilst Chris Sammer (F2/North) faces French trickster Anthony Ruenes (Tabou/Gaastra). Marcilio Browne (Naish/Naish) dispatched Daniel Bikich (Naish/Naish) and a battle between local sailors Marcus Hetzmannseder (JP/Pryde) and Michael Roßmeier (Exocet) saw Hetzmannseder taking the bout. He’ll have to front up to Lanzarote’s Antxon Otaegui (JP/Pryde); only the smoothest performances will be enough to progress from here onwards. Freestyles aristocracy provides company of the highest pedigree, and anyone aspiring to push the leaders from their elevated statuses, will have to prove they deserve it with nothing less than groundbreaking moves.

Be sure to check up on the latest status here tomorrow for an early start. Action could start at 09.00. www.pwaworldtour.com <http://www.pwaworldtour.com> and www.surfworldcup.at <http://www.surfworldcup.at>
