The 2006 Surf World Cup Neusiedler See – Day Three

At last the Sun came out and the beach scene was buzzing. After enduring rain for nearly 3 days, the mammoth Neusiedler See lakeside event site enjoyed masses of visitors, eager to rub shoulders with the worlds best Freestyle guru’s, whilst soaking up the carnival atmosphere.

Although many were not put off by the showers, huge tents with outdoor terraces saw swelling holiday weekend crowds from Vienna enjoying themselves, despite the wind refusing to oblige. And indeed many have come from further afield than the capital, as the promise of red-hot freestyle action, and a week of parties draws many from Italy, Germany and beyond.

Once more the nighttime scene is set to rock, as it has done since the opening ceremony kicked off. Podersdorf has truly welcomed windsurfing’s elite to its Nordstrand beach, with hospitality that will only be surpassed by any competition on the water.

Be sure to keep check www.pwaworldtour.com <http://www.pwaworldtour.com/> in case the wind should switch and let the games continue. The second round awaits with some tough heats for even the best. Although no heats are walkovers at this level, the draw has some mouth-watering matches, certain to see some major players fall.

Heat 18, a battle of the youngsters, pitches Brazilian teen sensation Marcilio Browne (Naish/Naish), against innovative French trick wizard Thomas Traversa (Tabou/Gaastra). The same heat puts Margaritan resident and world number 3 Jose Estredo (Fanatic/North) with new boy Fernando Garcia from the Dominican Republic, together in the ring.

There are no new faces in the talent packed heat 19. Antxon Otaegui (JP/Pryde) and Michael Roßmeier must fight it out to see who’ll progress with the winner between world number 6 Taty Frans (Starboard/ MauiSails) and Diony Guadagnino (Neil Pryde).

Overnight we can only hope that forecasts improve and the sun shines down on this Austrian hosted showcase of the PWA’s finest.
